Wonderware offers a comprehensive collection of DA Servers and I/O Servers to communicate with nearly every commonly used PLC and plant device. This Chocolate Milk Mixing application in this tutorial uses simulated data. InTouch responds the same, whether it is real data from a PLC or simulated data. The Wonderware Training Simulator has been configured and started for you. Also configured for you is the Topic communication link in the Server called PLC1. This is purposely the same as the Access Name you created in InTouch which is a "Best Practice" recommended by Wonderware.
Define Tags
InTouch needs tags, which are simply points of data. InTouch uses the Tagname Dictionary to define these data points. You can modify or create new tags using the Tagname Dictionary. You assign the Access Name for I/O tags in the Tagname Dictionary. In this lab, you will create tags to communicate with the mixing tank, the valves, and the start button.
